About the DESIGNPREIS
Bestowed in Germany by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and organised by the German Design Council / Rat für Formgebung, the “Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany” is that country’s highest official recognition in the field of design. The “German Design Council”, created in 1953, is today a global benchmark for communication and knowledge in the field of design.
The council applies strict criteria for access to the contest: products admitted to the contest are exclusively nominated by the Ministers and Senators of the Federal States or by the German Ministry of Economics and Technology. They must also be products that have previously won a national or international competition. The festival is also known as the “Prise of Prizes”.
Among other features, it places value on the following aspects of the products: Aesthetics, Quality of Design, Sustainability, Ergonomics, Functionality and Ease-of- Use, Innovation, Longevity, Concept, Quality of Production, Safety and Accessibility, Symbolic and Emotional Aspects, Technical Quality, Technical Operation, Manufacturing Technology or Value in Use.
